All tape isn’t created equal!

Tape isn’t something that many people think about when discussing a paint project.  And ultimately it isn’t the product that’s stuck to the wall or trim for the duration.  It’s lifespan is short and it’s generally discarded just a week or two after it’s use. So I guess you could say, it’s not very important.  Any tape will do…but it won’t.

Tape does more than keep paint from splattering or splotching the surface.  It’s a tool to protect, provide sharp contrast, clean lines and adhesion to the existing surface not to be painted.

In theory it sounds simple, but the science and logic behind the product are anything but simple.

There are many types.  Just off the top of my head

Duct Tape – Flexible and holding power

Stucco Tape– EIFS and Stucco

Orange Tape– Bleed and production

Blue Tape – UV Resistance

Production Tape – Classic Tan

Faux tape – Block it – Clean Lines

Grey – Strong – Holding Power

Green Tape – Solvent Resistant

Beyond the basics, there are subsets of each color or type.  And some tape products work outside and some inside. Some are resistant to heat, some are specifically designed for easy release.   There are tapes designed for professional applicators and then tapes designed for homeowners.

New products are released and we try to use several new products a year.  When we find one that works. We use it religiously…
