HOW CAN I TELL IF MY WALLS ARE WATER BASED (LATEX) PAINT OR OIL (ALKYD) PAINT?

Wall Finish

We recommend using some Rubbing Alcohol (Denatured Alcohol) on a cotton cloth and rub it lightly in an area you don’t mind some damage. If the paint becomes soft or begins to remove then it is latex or waterbased paint. If it’s not affected then it’s likely and alkyd paint or some other catalyzed product. Oil based paint is not susceptible to Alcohol.
