Lacquer and Specialty Wood Finishes

Applying a wood finish is essential to protect the wood’s surface. A good finish will prevent the surface from drying out, cracking, deteriorating and swelling from moisture. Besides protecting the surface, finishes can also enhance the appearance of the wood. The most common types are lacquer, shellac, polyurethane, varnish and wax. Lacquers and stains are wood coatings designed for the professional applicator. Our customers demand a high quality fast drying finish for interior wood and reclaimed lumber. We are trying to be part of the solution by specifying waterborne coatings, however still occasionally install traditional lacquers and alkyd stains where it isn’t practical. Pre Catalyzed top coats apply similarly to conventional top coats and dry to a hard film of exceptional fullness and clarity. The rich finishes can be flat, rubbed, satin, semi-gloss, polished, or gloss.
Some of the coatings have tight tolerances that require multiple coats to be applied the same day and considerations need to be taken in to avoid possible inter coat reactions and possible lifting.
